Pansy Fan Needlebook Instructions - Step 1

Your Pansy Fan silk print has been printed on 8 mm Habotai China silk so that it may have a "dreamy" look. Because the silk is translucent, it is necessary to line the print to give it enough body to support the embellishment. The 100% cotton flannel provided in this kit is used by couturiers to give body to fine silk without interfering with the hand and drape of the silk. (You may prefer to line your Pansy Fan silk print with cotton fabric, for a stiffer hand, or another piece of heavier, white silk.)

Line your Pansy Fan silk print by placing it over the 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" piece of 100% cotton flannel (or lining fabric of your choice). Pin in place along the edges, and with hand stitches, overcast the edges to hold the Pansy Fan silk print to the flannel lining while you are embellishing. You may choose to use a thin line of seam sealant along the edges of the lines print (in addition to the hand stitches) to help prevent fraying while you work. Another option would be to serge the edges.
