Now, I don't know about you, but showing people the back of my work is
kind of like showing people my underwear. Since you and I are not acquainted
on an intimate basis, I will ask that you kindly avert your eyes. :-) On
the other hand, if seeing the back of my work helps you to see that the
back of yours is much nicer, then that's a good thing! I've never been one
to put a lot of emphasis on the perfection of the backside aside from making
sure that my stitches are secure, so I doubt that the back of my work is
going to win any prizes in the near future, except perhaps, for the "World's
Most Awful." :-) OK, back to work
Join the embellished Pansy Fan silk print with the back piece by pinning
right sides together. First, find the centers of each piece by folding in
half and place a pin. Match the two pins, and then pin closely on either
side. Note that at the outer edges of the silk print do not reach the cut
edge of the back piece. This is OK. There is still enough fabric for a healthy
seam allowance. Join the two inside pieces in the same way, finding the
centers and matching them, and then pinning closely on either side.
Machine stitch at 1/2" from the edge DO NOT sew over pins. While
it may be true that a sharp needle will always go to the side of a pin,
you have no way of knowing at what moment the tip of your needle may become
dull enough to hit a pin. When needles and pins break during sewing, they
can be thrown out and lodge in your eye. So stop and remove your pins when
you are 2-3 stitches away from them.
A slightly lighter color machine thread is used in the example so that
it is more easily seen in the instructions. You should choose a thread color
that is one shade darker than your fabric, so that it will blend in and
be less visible should a few stitches show on the front when you are finished. |
