| Sew the button at the center front of the needlebook. Note: Sewing thread
is directional. It should be threaded through the needle in the same direction
that it leaves the spool of thread. If you are using two strands of thread
to attach your button, cut two lengths of thread in the same direction and
use them together. If you just put one piece of thread through the needle
and than double it, one of your lengths of thread will be going in the wrong
direction, and you are far more likely to experience tangled thread. In
addition to cutting the two threads going in the same direction, I always
pull the thread between my thumb and a bar of lavender scented soap. This
makes the thread pass more easily through the fabric, and does not stiffen
or thicken the thread as beeswax might do. When you begin stitching your
button, leave long thread tails that can be threaded through a needle later
on so that the thread can be buried in the fabric. Bury the thread by making
a 1/2" stitch in the fabric, pulling up a little bit, and then cutting
the thread. The thread tails should shrink back under the fabric, where
they will remain hidden. When you are finished sewing the button, knot your
thread and again bury the thread tails in the fabric. |
